I wrote a post the other day about knowing what you’re good at. I’m planning to follow that up with another post about doing things that you are passionate about.
I know a bit about following my passion. I’ve done that with my writing.
By following my passion, I’ve managed to carve a niche for myself as a regional writer that writes about the people and places that define them.
My latest book, Moxie: Maine in a Bottle, is published by Down East Books, an iconic Maine-based publisher. It’s also an example of Gladwell’s “10,000-hour-rule” in action.
If I hadn’t followed my passion and gotten serious about my writing back in 2002, then there would not have been a previous book about Moxie, Moxietown that managed to sell out two independent press runs.
Sometimes, you just ‘gotta dig down and show some Moxie!
Btw, nice mention by Hilary Nangle on her Maine Travel Maven site about the book and The Moxie Festival in Lisbon Falls.

Jim Baumer will be signing books at Kennebec’s, The Moxie Store in Lisbon Falls, on Friday, July 13, from 12-4. On Saturday, he’ll be at The Moxie Festival from 10-2, signing books, posing for pictures with politicians, and kissing babies.
